Australia have been very sloppy in their last 2 matches struggling with injuries and poor performances. This time in the Triangular Series is the most important because it is very tight in the standings. India will be looking to overtake Australia in this match but Australia will need to turn around their terrible form and return to what was happening in the tests.
Match Information :
February 19, Brisbane
Starting Time: 1320 Local Time
How the Teams Stand:
Australia have been poor in their last 2 matches and it was expected that they would run away with this series and finish on top of the ladder but at this stage it is anyone’s game to win or lose. Australia will find themselves in a vulnerable phase if they fail to win this match so it is crucial that they return to good form. India will also need this win as this is one of the more important matches during this group stage of the series as they fall into 2nd currently. Australia have been slack in the field which is much unlike them so they need to shift their focus and play well to build some confidence.
Ricky Ponting had a good series against India in the tests but is struggling for runs in the ODI’s. He is still captain so he does have that extra responsibility but it would be nice to see Punter score some runs as captain of Australia for what could be the last time. Gautam Gambhir is much the opposite of Ponting as Gambhir struggled in the tests but is in great form with the bat during these ODI’s with almost scoring 2 hundreds. It is key for India to get on the front foot early and take this game early on so they can push the Aussie’s into a hole.
Pitch Report:
The forecast is hot weather so should be a great day for cricket. Only last week the Gabba hosted a First class match where there was plenty of runs for batsman but also some help to the fast bowlers.
Team News:
Michael Clarke will remain on the sidelines meaning Ricky Ponting will captain once again. The only real issue might be over selecting Mitchell Starc or dropping him and including Ben Hilfenhaus into the team.
Australia (possible) 1 David Warner, 2 Matthew Wade (wk), 3 Ricky Ponting (capt), 4 Peter Forrest, 5 Michael Hussey, 6 David Hussey, 7 Daniel Christian, 8 Brett Lee, 9 Clint McKay, 10 Mitchell Starc/Ben Hilfenhaus, 11 Xavier Doherty.
Sehwag is unlikely to play in this match while Zaheer Khan could return and also Irfan Pathan might be dropped so that Praveen Kumar can play.
India (possible) 1 Gautam Gambhir, 2 Sachin Tendulkar, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Rohit Sharma, 5 Suresh Raina, 6 MS Dhoni (capt, wk), 7 Ravindra Jadeja, 8 R Ashwin, 9 Zaheer Khan, 10 Vinay Kumar, 11 Praveen Kumar.
